Global Polio Eradication Initiative Press Release - INDIA RECORDS ONE YEAR WITHOUT POLIO CASES; Critical need to maintain immunity to poliovirus in India until global eradication achieved    [Posted on: 2012-01-15]

India appears to have interrupted wild poliovirus transmission, today completing one year without polio since its last case, in a 2-year-old girl in the state of West Bengal, on 13 January 2011. India was once recognized as the world’s epicentre of polio. If all pending laboratory investigations  return negative, in the coming weeks India will officially be deemed to have stopped indigenous transmission of wild poliovirus. The number of polio-endemic countries, those which have never stopped indigenous wild poliovirus transmission, will then be reduced to a historical low of three: Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria.

World Toilet Day
PC health check : As time goes by, your computer performance can start to suffer as lots of different programs and websites fill up its working areas, and every so often they need a good clear-out. It is just like servicing a car, and as such there can be quite a bit to remember. All operating systems work best when at least 20% of the drive is kept free. You can make room by deleting unwanted photos, music and documents or by archiving your data on to removable storage like writable CDs. Alternatively, with the cost of hard drives falling all the time, try buying a second drive to store your documents separately to the operating system.
