139th Executive Board (EB) of the World Health Organization (WHO)

The 139th Executive Board (EB) of the World Health Organization (WHO) scheduled from 30-31 May 2016 at Geneva, Switzerland has ended successfully. The EB is the second highest governing body of the WHO. The first is the World Health Assembly.

The Board has representative from 34 member states of WHO. From the South East Asia Region, Bhutan along with Nepal and Thailand is representing the eleven member states of the region to the EB. Bhutan’s term to the EB has commenced from May 2016 and will continue its term for three years. The membership to the EB is reached on a rotation basis among the member states of each region of WHO.


LyonpoTandinWangchuk is nominated as the member to the EB from Bhutan. The 2 days 139th EB will discussedtechnical, management and financial and staff matters. The technical matters included Dementia, Health and Climate Change, Improving access to assistive technology, action plan for deafness and hearing loss; update on the eleventh revision of international Statistical classification of diseases and related health problems (ICD) and use of mobile wireless technologies for public health. This EB session also discussed and agreed on the process, including the dates for candidate’s forum, for nomination of candidate for the post of Director General of WHO.
