Three-year Study identifies key interventions to reduce Maternal, Newborn and Child Deaths [Posted on: 2011-12-18]
A new global consensus has been agreed on the key evidence-based interventions that will sharply reduce the 358,000 women who still die each year during pregnancy and childbirth and the 7.6 million children who die before the age of 5, according to a massive, three-year global study. The study, Essential Interventions, Commodities and Guidelines for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, is designed to facilitate decision-making in low- and middle-income countries about how to allocate limited resources for maximum impact on the health of women and children.

The 6th Biennial SAARC Federation of Oncology (SFO) Conference (5th-6th Nov. 2011) [Posted on: 2011-12-07]
The 6th Biennial SAARC Federation of Oncology (SFO) Conference with the theme “In Partnership Against Cancer” organized by JDWNRH, Ministry of Health was held on 5th-6th November 2011 at the Terma Linka Resort. The conference helped share knowledge among the SAARC experts and network within the region for coordinated response and care of the people affected by cancers. The inaugural session of this international conference was graced by Her Royal Highness Ashi Kesang Wangmo Wangchuck who touched many lives through her kindness and support.  The conference was attended by more than 140 participants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri-Lanka. Keynote address by HRH Ashi Kesang Wangmo Wangchuck.

Two Decades of HIV epidemic in Bhutan Hon'ble Lyonpo's Message on World AIDS Day-2011 [Posted on: 2011-12-05]
 The World has changed remarkably since the historic commitments made by world leaders to the Millenniums Development Goals and the declaration of commitment on HIV/AIDS in 2001. Thirty years into the AIDS epidemic, the world as of today has 34 million people living with HIV/AIDS globally, out of which 15.9 million are women and 2.5 million are children below the age of 15 years. Presently 16.6 million children aged 0-17 years have lost their parents due to HIV. There were 1.8 million AIDS related deaths in 2009 lower than 2.1 million in 2004.
