Seven (7) units ambulances have been received by Ministry of Health from His Holiness the Je Khenpo Treulku Jigme Choeda.
The ceremony of the new ambulances was performed by H.H. the Je Khenpo today at Tendrelthang. The Ministry of Health remains ever grateful to H.H. the Je Khenpo for this philanthropic contribution.
These are the remaining of ambulances that have been committed by the devotees of Chabje Rimpoche who has offered 6 ambulances in the past. The ambulances will be distributed to the following hospitals across the country.
1. ERRH Mongar
2. Lhuentse hospital
3. Trashiyangtse hospital
4. Samtse hospital
5. Pemagatshel hospital
6. Punakha hospital (2 units)
One additional to Punakha Hospital as desired by the devotees as gesture for providing good services in Punakha Hospital when they visited Bhutan as tourists.
Distribution to ERRH, Lhuentse Hospital and Trashiyangtse were done as per the wish of H.H. the Je Khenpo and distribution to rest of the health centers were done based on the needs assessment done by the Ministry.
Currently there are 111 ambulances in the field. These 7 units of ambulances will add up to 118 and it will drastically enhance the patient transportation in the country.
The total cost incurred for 7 units of ambulances is approximately Nu.7,766,284.20. The agents who have donated the ambulances have supported the transportation cost till Kolkata from the manufacturing plant. However, the Ministry of Health had paid about 24% (Nu.18,38,276.00) from the total expenditure to meet the transportation charges from Kolkata to Thimphu, 20% Green tax, Service charge, transit insurance and other formalities.
All ambulances will be dispatched to the designated hospitals by 26th June 2018.
