RESEARCH ETHICS BOARD OF HEALTH (REBH)
"Ethical Clearance for Human Participants in Research"
Research Ethics Board of Health (REBH) has been formed in Ministry of Health to protect human participants in any research or studies.
Henceforth, all those conducting any health related research /study in Bhutan involving human participants must obtain prior
Ethical Approval from Research Ethics Board of Health (REBH) before conducting the research/study.
The board meets in February, May, August and November. All documents must reach the REBH secretariat at least two weeks
before the scheduled meetings. Minimum review process takes one month. Any research/study done without the Ethical Approval
will be nullified or will not be possible to publish or present anywhere or REBH may take action in the interest of the
human participants.
Documents required for the review are:
- Initial Review Form (available at health website or on request)
- Research Protocol (final version of your study blue print)
- Research/Survey tools (e.g. final version of questionnaires)
- Consent/assent forms and information sheet both in Dzongkha and English
- NSB clearance letter (usually on sampling methodologies for large surveys). Please contact our focal person at

- Submit both hard (2 copies) and soft copy of all above documents to the Member Secretary of REBH at
Health Research and Epidemiology Unit, Ministry of Health.
